TURKEY COOKOUT! We had a fantastic time. The first thing I
want to do is to congratulate the scouts on a job well done. In the
morning it looked like we were going to be badly behind schedule. The
scouts all kicked in to get the turkeys ready to go in the ground on time.
Venture took a very active role in teaching the scouts how to prepare the
turkeys. Leadership and other senior scouts also kicked in to help, in
addition to other duties which they had. We even had webelos guests
helping with the turkeys. Overall - a very good example of teamwork.
Next I need to thank the large number of adults who came
out to camp and help. We had a fantastic turnout of adults. Everyone
pitched in. It was very nice to have the large number of adults,
especially on this campout. We even had our webelos guests parents
pitching in.
Speaking of Webelos, we had 3 patrols join us. We enjoyed
having them and hopefully they enjoyed their experience with us. Joining
us was Mr. Becker and his Husky patrol from Pack 163, Mr. Henry and his
Dragon patrol from Pack 163, and Ms. Pellow and her patrol from Pack 55.
Ms. Pellow’s patrol does not have a name yet - we called them the
ghosts.
Thanks to Mr. Cude and Mr. Lucas for coming to the rescue
on picking up the popcorn in style in Mr. Cude’s big box truck. They
also pitched in with their good deed and helped other troops load their
popcorn while waiting for their turn to come up. The Dragon patrol were
thinking that they would have a condo to sleep in on Saturday night.
This was the largest turkey cookout ever. We had roughly 130 people
attending for dinner.
