From
the Scribe's perspective:
This campout
was great. We went to Roman Nose State Park in northwestern
Oklahoma. They were hosting a re-enactment of the 1800's. The patrols set
up really quick on Friday evening and Spencer and Jack had a new guy
patrol called the Patriots. On Saturday, everyone got around and
finished breakfast quick. Venture and the guys going on the trek this
summer went on a hike after breakfast while the rest of the troop went up
to the re-enactment. When Venture got back from their hike after being
lost on the golf course for a while, some went to the activities.
Then, all the patrols had dinner which was hamburgers for all of them.
When everyone was done with dinner, we all messed around for awhile and
then had campfire. Next, there was nothing to do but go to bed. When we
woke up, we all got ready on the things that needed to be done, yet it
took longer than setting up to break down especially in the policing area.
Overall, it was a great campout and I think most of the guys had fun on
it.
From
the Scoutmaster's perspective:
Although
the winter has not been all that cold, we have picked weekends with cold
nights for camping. The February campout to Roman Nose state park was a
double Polar Bear again. We had kind of a weird campsite this time. We
were basically in the median of the campground loop drive. It was really
more like a picnic area. However, we made the best of it. The Bitter Creek
Frontier Daze was ok, but we had heard that it had been much better in the
past. One of the participants said that there was another re-enactment
going on the same weekend, so many of the usual participants were at the
other one. The Scouts who went could see much potential in attending the
re-enacement events. They all had a great time and were interested in
going to a huge event, called Trappers Rendezvous, that is in Kansas every
January.
