This year's September campout was Webelos Woods at Camp Kickapoo. I think every Scout had a great time. Our Troop taught cooking. For what we were teaching, we had three stations. The first was dish washing. This is where we taught them how to do K.P. In out next station, we made cobbler. I think everyone liked the cobbler except one Webelos who complained a lot. In our last station, we taught utensil-less cooking. This was the contest station to see which Webelos group would win first place. We gave them a Y-shaped stick with foil wrapped around it to cook one piece of bacon and one egg.

In my patrol, everyone, except for me left before Sunday. It was to my advantage though, because I got to eat all by myself. When we returned to the Church on Sunday, it took us extra long to unload because we had to dry all the rain-soaked tents and tarps. When we were finally finished, we were all happy because we got to go home!

From the Scoutmaster's perspective

In September, the Troop helped to host Webelos Woods. For those of you who did not come up through the Cub Scout ranks, this is an event where the older Cub Scouts get to learn and experience some of the basic Scout skills. They get to camp out two nights, see a pretty good campfire program and see Boy Scouts at work.

This year our Scouts decided to change from teaching orienteering, which we have done for a long time.  Instead, we taught camp cooking, with a hands-on feature of utensil-less cooking.   I have to applaud their adventurous spirit, because to the best of my knowledge, none of them who were teaching had ever actually used this skill.  In spite of having some difficulty, they did a great job! Although there were several good events, I got reports that ours was among the best! A group of our adults teamed up to provide Dutch oven cobblers to all the participants who visited our teaching area. It was a big hit!

It is impossible to schedule all of our fall Scouting events to where they do not conflict with college football. Thanks go to Mrs. Pearson, Mrs. Wood and Mr. Jones, Sr. who took over the troop for this campout.
