Mr.
Rogers, David & BA sit on Lady Cyana's deck waiting for the
crew to finish loading the boat. |
Thursday, July
20th
The adults got up at 6:30 this morning.
Surprise of all surprises, the Scouts come to the adults door
this morning at 7 am to announce that breakfast is ready … even if
it was cold cereal, they were on the ball.
After eating, we cleaned up, goofed off and
kidded each other some, packed our scuba gear and climbed in the cars
to head for Lady Cyana’s. Ken
is joining our dives today. We
get to Lady Cyana’s at 8:30 (on-time) and Ken gets checked in while
we get our dive gear out of storage.
We’re off from the docks shortly after 9 am with a boatload
of tourists and go quite a bit further out into the Atlantic.
We anchor at our first dive site, called Crocker
Ridges, where the bottom is at about 35 feet.
Between the coral ridges in this area are open sandy areas and
we follow one of these down to a maximum depth of 60 feet.
Again, the fish population is significant and their color is
boundless. We saw our
first moray eel on this dive, another small stingray and generally
just cruised around on our way back to the boat.
Our total dive time was 42 minutes and visibility wasn’t as
good today, being only around 60 feet.
Ken experienced an inner-ear problem and had to return to the
boat a little early, so we all got out with some extra air in our
tanks.
Again, during the 45 minutes while we’re
resting from the dive, the boat crew repositioned to another site. This site, called Davis Ledge,
has a hard bottom at just 20 feet.
Ken isn’t feeling well after the last dive and decides to
stay on the boat. This
site has the most fish of any we’ve been at as was like being inside
an aquarium. Some guys
spotted a nurse shark; other saw two three-foot moray eels and
everyone noticed the large barracuda that would swim up to within a
couple feet of you before sauntering off.
Being so shallow, our bottom time was just at an hour, and most
of us could have stayed down another ten to fifteen minutes, but the
group surfaced anyway.
Once we get back to Lady Cyana’s, we loaded up
and went back to the motel rooms, ate some lunch and the Scouts
dropped on their beds to watch cartoons.
The adults took to their beds, too, but found more
entertainment in naps. Our
meal plan called for tonight’s meal to be at a restaurant and after
last night’s meal at the Outback, we decided to visit Burger King.
Once we’re back in our rooms, we begin packing for Sea Base
and then the Scouts go to the pool for one last swim.
Bedtime was 10:30 pm.
