The BSA Canoe Base at Atikokan is on the north side of
the Quetico on Perch Lake . It takes longer to get there and is worth the longer trip. The base is
smaller and more relaxed then Ely. There is room for only 4 crews at time in the
Base. Jeremy is checking our food and loading it into the food pack in the
covered area. Behind him is the sauna and Perch Lake. |

Lerome Lake was our starting point.
The canoes are loaded and we start our trip. |
After a long day of paddling a fire is lit and the
canoe is turned over and becomes a table to cook on. |
Plates in hand we wait for dinner . |
Robert carrying the canoe named "Sanford down a portage
trail. |
At the end of the portage trail Robert wades into the
water with the canoe. Care must be taken not to damage a canoe on the rocks. A hole
in the canoe would strand us in the wilderness. |
Thanks to Richard and Jamie we had fish for dinner
everyday. The walleye was the best. |
Paddling in calm water after a portage trail |
A small campsite on a hill, but we take
it and enjoy the stop for the night. |
North of Sturgeon Lake we find an old one
room cabin. |
An abandoned logging barge on the
northwest entrance to Sturgeon Lake. |
A Beaver home means beaver ponds and dams and very slow
going. |
Back at base camp the 4 Runner is loaded
for our departure the next day |
The staff is clearing an area, but a
large stump is slowing them down. |
