Road: Day 1
Both crews (18 people) met at the church at
7:30am and loaded gear into four vehicles (van, pickup, 2 Suburbans).
After good-byes, we got on the road at 8:05am. Each vehicle carried a
2-way FRS radio for communications. We arrived at the Coleman Outlet Store
in Wichita, KS, about 11am and nearly everyone had to buy a few camping
items. We left Wichita headed toward Kansas City and stopped for lunch on
the road. After driving eight hours, we stopped for the night at Nine
Eagles State Park about an hour into Iowa. Set up camp, made dinner and
went to bed early.
Road: Day 2
Up at 5am to break camp and reload the vehicles.
Went McDonald's for a quick breakfast. Thirty miles up the road it starts
raining. Stopped for lunch at the Oscelboa rest area (still raining), then
back on the road. After driving in rain for 500 miles, we made it to
Gooseberry Falls State Park in Minnesota by 4pm, where the rain turned
into a drizzle and then stopped just as we began to |
