On
the Road - Des Moines, Iowa
Both crews got up early and we had the cars loaded by 5:45am so we
could grab a continental breakfast in the Dining Hall at 6. We stopped on
our way out of the camp for crew pictures by the camp entrance sign. Drove
toward Ely and stopped at US Immigration trailer to fill out and leave
forms. Made a quick pit and fuel stop in Canyon, MN, and headed south.
Next stop was at Cabela's Super Store about 60 miles south of Minneapolis
in Fairburn, where we shopped and ate lunch. One more pit stop before we
arrived at the Econo Lodge in Des Moines, IA, after eight hours on the
road. We checked in and then went as a group to the El Rodeo Mexican
Restaurant for a dinner of excellent Mexican food. Then, back to motel
where several Scouts went to the pool. This was a special night because we
all had a REAL BED and, more important, a FLUSHIE and air
conditioning.
On the Road - Oklahoma City
On the road and the drivers are really tired … the Scouts slept
most of the time. Pit stop - Drive - Pit stop - Arrived in Oklahoma City
and drove to the church where we off-loaded the gear into the basement and
then waited for parents to pick up their Scouts, then home.
